Baptism

Parishioners wishing to have a child baptized should be registered at OLM for at least three months, regularly attending Mass, and regularly giving to the offertory, all of which is to ensure that they are practicing Catholics who take their faith seriously.

For Infant Baptism, please follow the process below. For an adult who desires Baptism, please contact our Director of Adult Faith Formation, Michael Gagnon (dre@olmjasper.org), for information about our RCIA Program.

Step by step process for your child’s Baptism
 Please do the following:

1. Register in the parish: Please visit our registration page, or email; office@olmjasper.org for assistance.

2. Attend a Baptism Class: Classes are held the first Sunday of the month, after the 11am Mass in the Library (basement). Please contact the Parish Office to register for the class.

Spanish language classes: Please contact our Hispanic Coordinator at castillo.vlourdes@gmail.com to begin the process of preparing for your child’s Baptism.

3. Godparents: Choose 1 or 2 Catholic godparents (one male and one female) for your child. The Godparent(s) you choose will need a “Catholic in Good Standing” letter from their parish. We recommend that you use the Godparent Form linked below.

4. Schedule: We normally do Baptisms on the third Saturday/Sunday of each Month. Saturdays are at 11am and Sunday Baptisms are after the 11am Mass (around 12:30pm).

5. Documents: We need the following forms before a Baptism will be scheduled.

a. Baptismal Registration (see link below)

b. Your Child’s Birth Certificate.

c. One "Godparent Form" for each Godparent (see link below).

Other things one may want to do in preparation for a child’s Baptism are:

  •  Christening Gown: find a white christening gown or baptismal garment for your child.
  •  Candle: although the parish will provide a candle, you might find a more noble option is for you to buy your own beautiful white candle that you can use as your child’s Baptismal candle, and burn it every year on his or her name day, or birthday, or the anniversary of their Baptism, to remind them of this great sacrament. If you bring that candle to the Baptism ceremony, it will be used in the ritual and become a blessed sacramental for your child.
