We at Our Lady of the Mountains express our greatest sympathies at the loss of your loved ones. We want to encourage you to remain in joyful hope as we await the glorious return of Jesus, and the resurrection of all his faithful ones arrayed in splendor of Christ Jesus’ victory over death.

Holy Mother Church provides for us in three distinct rites to aid our beloved deceased to be received in eternity and to comfort you in your grief.

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” - Revelation 21:4

  • Vigil. The vigil is sometimes called a wake, viewing, or memorial depending on the local custom. Vigils focus on the life of the deceased. Typically, there is a viewing of the body or urn, and the family comes together to grieve. This is an appropriate time for Eulogies, and sometimes a Deacon will come lead a Rosary with Vespers (Evening Prayers).

  • Funeral. The funeral focuses on the hope of eternal salvation through our most merciful Lord, Jesus Christ. The funeral is centered on the transition of the deceased’s soul from its earthly life into eternal life. In Mass, we say these essential prayers for mercy and the commendations, in its most perfect form, within the Mass.

  • Committal. This right is the final farewell to the earthly vessel and prepares us to embrace the reality of the Resurrection of the Dead at the end of time, as promised by Jesus Christ. If desired, this is another time for a small eulogy expressing that love and hope.
